I bite anyway,<\/p>\n
pierce red skin<\/p>\n
with foreshadowing teeth.\u00a0 I hold<\/p>\n
my breath.\u00a0 You take<\/p>\n
my hand and for a moment I wish<\/p>\n
it had been poisoned.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
\u00a0<\/b><\/p>\n
\u00a0<\/b><\/p>\n
I Happened<\/b><\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
upon a squirrel in quiet<\/p>\n
contemplation of his universe.<\/p>\n
Yard and tree holding<\/p>\n
limitless possibilities, a fascination<\/p>\n
I know all too well.\u00a0 My breathing<\/p>\n
must have disrupted his concentration.<\/p>\n
Tiny furred head cocked my way<\/p>\n
for a moment, tilted<\/p>\n
in adjustive comprehension, returned<\/p>\n
to original point of focus.\u00a0 I<\/p>\n
was already assimilated as background,<\/p>\n
temporary noise, disregarded.<\/p>\n
I envied this rapid-fire assessment,<\/p>\n
yearned for the ability to decipher<\/p>\n
trivial trash from true treasure, imagined,<\/p>\n
for a moment, it was my paws<\/p>\n
poised in prepatory flight, yet standing<\/p>\n
frozen and fearless, in appreciative awe.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/b><\/p>\n
Pen<\/i><\/b><\/p>\n
\u00a0<\/i><\/b><\/p>\n
Hollow prophet.<\/p>\n
Of darkness.<\/p>\n
Or light.<\/p>\n
Violating.<\/p>\n
Innocent white.<\/p>\n
With blood?<\/p>\n
Too permanent.<\/p>\n
It smears.<\/p>\n
It must be ink.<\/p>\n
