Dream-Killed Nights<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n

smoke like whispers of a dying<\/p>\n

fire, a cross that cannot stretch<\/p>\n

the water.\u00a0 I long to travel<\/p>\n

the war-torn tendrils, feel<\/p>\n

the breath of a thousand fish<\/p>\n

beneath me.\u00a0 Life has a strange way<\/p>\n

of marking, and mocking, our passage.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

The Breath Before Ignition<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n

Tangible holds emanate.\u00a0 Ghosts<\/p>\n

of ember\u2019s future ruminate, raise<\/p>\n

the possibility of heat in incremental stages.<\/p>\n

Tactility surrenders<\/p>\n

to ephemeral.\u00a0 Smoke whispers.\u00a0 Friction<\/p>\n

fills the wind like thunder.\u00a0 One strike.<\/p>\n

The world starts<\/p>\n

counting<\/p>\n

down<\/p>\n

to<\/p>\n

flame.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Even After Death<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

The skull should have been desiccated, void<\/p>\n

of anything even remotely alive,<\/p>\n

and yet as a slight breeze rustled the desert floor,<\/p>\n

a hint of fur bristled along the brow line.<\/p>\n

It was only a second\u2019s flash of defiance,<\/p>\n

but I chose to hold it in my mind<\/p>\n

as if it were an echo of the million<\/p>\n

miles of memories that came before.<\/p>\n
