Scheponik"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Back to the Dream<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>I wonder if Kent State, If Woodstock, if Steinman\u2019s<\/p>\n<p>bra-burning revolution ever happened.<!--more--><\/p>\n<p>Did Martin Luther King, Jr. ever have a dream?<\/p>\n<p>Can we ever overcome the worst of who we are<\/p>\n<p>to be the best that we could be?<\/p>\n<p>All this talk of border walls when we have too many<\/p>\n<p>walls already: walls of racism, walls of sexism,<\/p>\n<p>walls of ageism, walls of gender hate, walls separating<\/p>\n<p>rich from poor, walls of religion that keep others out and<\/p>\n<p>lock us in, walls of ideologies made of blood and sin.<\/p>\n<p>Press your ear to the earth. Hear the heartbreak of Native Americans\u2019<\/p>\n<p>cry for who they were, for what they\u2019ve lost.<\/p>\n<p>Hear the blood of African slaves singing the misery made<\/p>\n<p>of their lives, of their history, of their future degraded all for the sake<\/p>\n<p>of the white man\u2019s dream. Go to the cities and hear the girders scream<\/p>\n<p>the immigrants\u2019 plight and pain.<\/p>\n<p>Listen to the train rails grieve the names of those who sacrificed<\/p>\n<p>themselves for the claim of sea to shining sea.<\/p>\n<p>We are not a melting pot\u2014never were\u2014nor a salad bowl.<\/p>\n<p>We were only ever a dream of a land where all would be free to live,<\/p>\n<p>free to thrive, free to be happy to be alive, to have pride in country<\/p>\n<p>and peace of soul.
