from<\/em> Pond Life : 29th<\/sup> May<\/p>\n

White Feather<\/strong><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

In May I remember October\u2019s road,<\/p>\n

drenched sodden dips full of flood.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

There was a white feather<\/p>\n

boating the slouch of water.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Fatherhood,<\/p>\n

is<\/em> flooded with childhood.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

The activity<\/p>\n

of old, aggressive inheritance<\/p>\n

saturates ground;<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

still I could fight for nothing.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Hand on the rod: hand it on,<\/p>\n

try<\/p>\n

to retain a standing strong enough<\/p>\n

from which to draw an aquatic power<\/p>\n

up,<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

to catch the mercurial mood,<\/p>\n

to see<\/em> in the fading light,<\/p>\n

to forge better instinct.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

A spider at its harp<\/p>\n

is waiting too, for inspiration.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

the Lung of the Great Diving Beetle<\/strong><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

In human form we move<\/p>\n

to breathe;<\/p>\n

sad with this fact,<\/p>\n

for what is<\/em> sacred?<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Tonight, in our longest-eyes-back<\/p>\n

up the tunnel of the road to the pool,<\/p>\n

I feel how the world is a fish egg,<\/p>\n

rupturing, hatching;<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

the atmosphere, a lung,<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

as under the wing-case<\/p>\n

of this great diving beetle<\/p>\n

dipping to prey, into sex and death,<\/p>\n

like us<\/em>;<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

whose lung, prised off air,<\/p>\n

is a bubble under its carapace,<\/p>\n

a silvered reserve,<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

a torch-bulb of gas<\/p>\n

beaming down through its body<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n
