Like Runes<\/strong><\/h3>\n

 <\/p>\n

I know it must be<\/p>\n

poetry<\/p>\n

because it seems a<\/p>\n

mystery<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

and that it’s modern<\/p>\n

poetry<\/p>\n

because it is<\/p>\n

supposed to be<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

about the likes<\/p>\n

of you and me<\/p>\n

and yet the more<\/p>\n

I look it seems<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

the less and less<\/p>\n

and less I see<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

almost<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

invar<\/p>\n

i<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

ably<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Our Ladies\u2019 “Heroes”<\/strong><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Let us call them heroes<\/em>,<\/p>\n

not negatives<\/em>, not zeroes<\/em>,<\/p>\n

and praise the way<\/p>\n

they go and slay<\/p>\n

and leave the world with less, or fewer,<\/p>\n

and leave a place with blood and guts<\/p>\n

trickling down a sewer.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Let\u2019s not say they\u2019re nuts,<\/p>\n

though they don\u2019t introspect.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Let us say<\/p>\n

that when they slay<\/p>\n

they<\/p>\n

in fact protect<\/em>.<\/p>\n

To myrmidons<\/p>\n

in danger zones<\/p>\n

the irony\u2019s too subtle.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Let\u2019s not say Murder!<\/em> when<\/p>\n

it\u2019s ordered by elected men<\/p>\n

and carried out by myriads<\/p>\n

enlisted and anonymous<\/p>\n

on a field of battle.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Let\u2019s say they\u2019re brave<\/em> and valorous<\/em><\/p>\n

as Hectors, Henries, Galahads;<\/p>\n

we cannot call them zeroes<\/em>.<\/p>\n

The label<\/p>\n

will enable<\/p>\n

only if we keep calling<\/p>\n

our soldiers heroes<\/em><\/p>\n

and tell them it\u2019s God\u2019s will<\/p>\n

when they rape and kill<\/p>\n

and leave trails of red dust,<\/p>\n

not something He<\/p>\n

a.k.a. She<\/p>\n

must<\/p>\n
