[Five Poems from Corpses in the Void<\/em>]<\/strong><\/p>\n

translated from Romanian by \u0218tefan Bolea<\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n

Prophetic Anatomy<\/strong><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

There isn\u2019t any poison left<\/p>\n

only some pale fluids<\/p>\n

the sunburnt tongue cries in agony<\/p>\n

and the canines have gone smaller, while the nothing<\/p>\n

is sealing the words.<\/p>\n

Statues will be erected<\/p>\n

for the ones who have not been, those who are<\/p>\n

will be consecrated with a Nay<\/em> \u2013 and the falling<\/p>\n

adjectives will adorn<\/p>\n

the pithecanthrope\u2019s forehead. Only the vertebra<\/p>\n

will go on smiling<\/p>\n

and they shall dance, dance, dance,<\/p>\n

creeping into the cracks<\/p>\n

of history and geography.<\/p>\n

Hallelujah<\/strong><\/p>\n

Lord of dreams, there\u2019s no more<\/p>\n

venom in my blood \u2013 the guillotine<\/p>\n

decapitates corpses.<\/p>\n

a NO<\/em>, perhaps a NO<\/em><\/p>\n

should be the last word<\/p>\n

in this empty church<\/p>\n

where a tape recorder<\/p>\n

delivers an endless sermon.<\/p>\n

Coat of Arms<\/strong><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

The rabid dog has died,<\/p>\n

the old horse was stabbed,<\/p>\n

the wind took their skins away<\/p>\n

and went to feed its orphans.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Feverishly the old fortress is extinguished,<\/p>\n

the snake has fallen after drinking poison,<\/p>\n

the bloodstained evening abdicates over the hills<\/p>\n

selling her dead body.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Only the assassin is immortal<\/p>\n

grinning when stars are falling \u2013<\/p>\n

the victim\u2019s ghosts<\/p>\n

at his feet.<\/p>\n

Infectious Invocation<\/strong><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Seven fat hyenas and seven thin hyenas \u2013 absurd clepsydra<\/p>\n

went out of the river, oh, how many corpses do we need, how many horse carcasses,<\/p>\n

how many stiffs\u2026 but horses had been long dead, and cars are sleeping<\/p>\n

in the night, and corpses have only two legs, and everyone<\/p>\n

produces a SINGULAR<\/em> corpse! Oh, god of hyenas, give us the new law,<\/p>\n

always have mercy on our stars, let your reeking ghost<\/p>\n

descend upon us! Give to each one<\/p>\n

many, many<\/p>\n

COUNTLESS<\/p>\n

corpses!<\/p>\n

Corpses in the Void<\/strong><\/p>\n

Void, void, void \u2013<\/p>\n

too much void in history<\/p>\n

the only lessons learned<\/p>\n

dread and blind submission.<\/p>\n

Wine and stars<\/p>\n

Can no longer cheat us.<\/p>\n

Byproducts of chance,<\/p>\n

woe to the crownless kings!<\/p>\n

The slaves are dead<\/p>\n

and their corpses<\/p>\n
