Domestic Reliquary<\/strong><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

There is a wicker basket in the kitchen<\/p>\n

on a shelf under the coffee maker<\/p>\n

that holds a wild mix of wayward things,<\/p>\n

a crazy collection of unrelated items<\/p>\n

that bear no connection one-to-another:<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

orange markers and pink fountain pens,<\/p>\n

that may or may not work,<\/p>\n

a grocery receipt from months ago<\/p>\n

a small container of cannabis gummies,<\/p>\n

pineapple or apricot flavored,<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

10 or 20 milligrams\u2014 I can\u2019t remember which,<\/p>\n

in a peaceable kingdom where a doorbell button<\/p>\n

sleeps next to a yellow keyring<\/p>\n

and colored pencils lay down<\/p>\n

with No. 2 graphite ones,<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

in a shrine for everything lost, odd and worthless,<\/p>\n

a sundry mix of the misplaced<\/p>\n

which seem to wiggle, roll and slide,<\/p>\n

to make their way to this final place\u2014<\/p>\n

all the little parts of us.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

My Ex<\/strong><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Some women<\/p>\n

remind me of cities,<\/p>\n

and like cities each has<\/p>\n

a unique character and spirit.<\/p>\n

I am thinking specifically<\/p>\n

of my ex now.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

She is no Paris,<\/p>\n

Berlin or Barcelona,<\/p>\n

but rather, a Soviet-bloc<\/p>\n

brutalist landscape,<\/p>\n

dark and unwelcoming<\/p>\n

as Prague in a late<\/p>\n

afternoon thunderstorm,<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

or more accurately,<\/p>\n

she is monolithic<\/p>\n

like the blackened<\/p>\n

concrete block buildings<\/p>\n

you see lining<\/p>\n

the narrow streets<\/p>\n

of the Hungarian Capital.<\/p>\n
