by Tushar Sen"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>At My Funeral<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>They lowered the coffin like bait for worms.<br \/>\nSome were crying, some tried,<br \/>\nsome had already cried.<!--more--><br \/>\nSome were glad, some relieved,<br \/>\nsome worried, some indifferent\u2014<br \/>\nthe rest were marking attendance.<\/p>\n<p>The priest was miffed\u2014<br \/>\nthis death did not pay well;<br \/>\nhis prayers came measured,<br \/>\nhurried where they mattered least.<br \/>\nHe checked his watch mid-ritual,<br \/>\nhis return ticket still unconfirmed,<br \/>\nanother ceremony waiting\u2014by evening, a marriage,<br \/>\nthe groom from the gold mafia,<br \/>\nwho paid in weight, not sentiment,<br \/>\nand buried their mistakes properly.<\/p>\n<p>Candles came aplenty, but bouquets fell short;<br \/>\nparking wasn\u2019t free\u2014visitors complained.<br \/>\nThe lamb was poorly skewered,<br \/>\nand gossip found its rhythm;<br \/>\nwine was opened while champagne stayed aside,<br \/>\nand the poet was drunk,<br \/>\nso the requiem never came.<\/p>\n<p>Then came the speeches\u2014<br \/>\nfolded versions of me,<br \/>\nironed of inconvenience.<br \/>\nThey spoke of kindness as if constant,<br \/>\nof promise as if it had matured.<br \/>\nNo one mentioned the unfinished,<br \/>\nthe debts of habit, the small betrayals of self\u2014<br \/>\neulogies prefer completed men.<\/p>\n<p>Near the edge, a man stood apart,<br \/>\nnot grieving\u2014calculating.<br \/>\nHe had numbers where others had memories,<br \/>\ndates where others had faces.<br \/>\nHe did not step forward,<br \/>\nbut did not leave either.<\/p>\n<p>Death triggered accounts.<br \/>\nSomewhere, signatures were remembered,<br \/>\ninterest quietly resuming its work.<\/p>\n<p>Inside, they spoke of legacy\u2014<br \/>\na word that softens division.<br \/>\nDrawers would be opened soon,<br \/>\nkeys finding their locks,<br \/>\nnames matched to portions.<\/p>\n<p>Grief thinned into arithmetic\u2014<br \/>\nwho gets what, who deserved more,<br \/>\nwho was always meant to be left out.<\/p>\n<p>The cameraman appeared<br \/>\nonly when the movie star arrived<br \/>\n(hiding his glycerine bottle).<\/p>\n<p>They forced the drawer open,<br \/>\nwhere lay the will I unwillingly signed.<\/p>\n<p>What remained of me was dust in the graveyard<br \/>\nand papers to fight over.<br \/>\nThe flesh was never needed\u2014<br \/>\nthey let the worms have it.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>My mirror doesn\u2019t remember my face<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The mirror wants my first face back.<br \/>\nIt knocks from the inside.<br \/>\nBackstage smells like old rain<br \/>\nand wires losing faith.<br \/>\nThe spotlight left mid-sentence,<br \/>\na warm dog choosing knees.<br \/>\nIt sleeps on other names now;<br \/>\nmine cools on a hook.<br \/>\nMy suit keeps its applause\u2014<br \/>\ndust claps when I move.<br \/>\nA poster peels my younger grin,<br \/>\nglue holding better than me.<br \/>\nI rehearse being recognized<br \/>\nin windows that refuse.<\/p>\n<p>My name sticks to the rim,<br \/>\na print no one claims.<br \/>\nChairs remember my weight<br \/>\nlonger than any crowd.<br \/>\nI drink the light in bottles,<br \/>\ncheap bulbs with no heat.<br \/>\nThe mirror keeps him breathing:<br \/>\nunspent, untouchable.<br \/>\nIt offers him for entry;<br \/>\nI pay with what I\u2019m not.<br \/>\nSecurity scans my silence,<br \/>\nlets brighter ghosts pass.<br \/>\nEven the dark edits me,<br \/>\ncuts scenes I can\u2019t keep.<br \/>\nThe mirror waits for change\u2014<br \/>\nI wait while it slowly forgets me.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>The Poisoning of Alexander<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>I know you,<br \/>\nI have seen you lift souls<br \/>\nfrom the battlefields of my making,<br \/>\nyou chose the wrong door tonight, though.<\/p>\n<p>They\u2019ve planned it all\u2014<br \/>\nexcept this.<br \/>\nThis cannot be my time.<br \/>\nNot yet.<\/p>\n<p>I deserve a cleaner death\u2014<br \/>\non the battlefield,<br \/>\nwhen steel sang odes<br \/>\nto my conquests,<br \/>\nnot trapped on a bed<br \/>\ncounting pulses,<br \/>\nlistening to the hush close in,<br \/>\ncursing the traitor<br \/>\nwho held the chalice.<\/p>\n<p>If I could buy time, you\u2019d be rich.<br \/>\nTake your pick\u2014<br \/>\ngold in coffers,<br \/>\nland stamped by my signet,<br \/>\ngems stuck in plundered rings,<br \/>\nflesh caged in harems\u2014<\/p>\n<p>I\u2019d give it all away<br \/>\nfor one more day<br \/>\nof that thunder and glory.<\/p>\n<p>All of it\u2014<br \/>\nuseless against this quiet.<br \/>\nAnd yet\u2014<br \/>\nwhen you finally find me,<br \/>\ncome without force.<\/p>\n<p>Come quiet.<br \/>\nSay\u2014<br \/>\nthe fight is done.<br \/>\nTake my hand,<br \/>\nnot as a conqueror,<br \/>\nbut as one who knows<br \/>\nhow long I\u2019ve carried this weight.<\/p>\n<p>Tell me I have done enough.<br \/>\nTell me there is silence
