Journeys<\/strong><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Individual beginnings<\/p>\n

are often small and<\/p>\n

seemingly insignificant –<\/p>\n

the embodiment of hopes<\/p>\n

the realization of dreams<\/p>\n

summarily entrusted<\/p>\n

with the future<\/p>\n

regardless of personal<\/p>\n

consent or preference \u2026<\/p>\n

we are delivered \u2013 complete<\/p>\n

with the crushing<\/p>\n

expectations of others<\/p>\n

enforced by the weight<\/p>\n

of ancestral history.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Lives imperceptibly<\/p>\n

become unique<\/p>\n

honed through<\/p>\n

an endless succession<\/p>\n

of triumphs, defeats<\/p>\n

and sporadic epiphanies<\/p>\n

culled from all<\/p>\n

the tedious explorations<\/p>\n

regarding what defines<\/p>\n

who we truly are<\/p>\n

versus the designs of those<\/p>\n

ignorant of<\/em> or uninterested in<\/em><\/p>\n

our chosen needs fueled<\/p>\n

by our consecrated desires.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

All the plans<\/p>\n

secretly dreamt<\/p>\n

the loves and hates<\/p>\n

silently remembered<\/p>\n

only to be forgotten later<\/p>\n

the laughter and tears<\/p>\n

shared or kept to ourselves<\/p>\n

weave through life\u2019s fabric<\/p>\n

totally devoid of any<\/p>\n

apparent schedule \u2013<\/p>\n

only the promise<\/p>\n

of ample time to do<\/p>\n

what we do best \u2013<\/p>\n

to wonder<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Autumnal<\/strong><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Fall crept in<\/p>\n

unnoticed<\/p>\n

its melancholic<\/p>\n

sigh echoed in<\/p>\n

the worried trees<\/p>\n

alerting them<\/p>\n

the time had come<\/p>\n

to toast their<\/p>\n

blithe and airy<\/p>\n

summer hues<\/p>\n

to the crisp<\/p>\n

yellow, brown<\/p>\n

and russet shades<\/p>\n

that herald<\/p>\n

the somber<\/p>\n

season of broken<\/p>\n

promises and<\/p>\n

unfulfilled<\/p>\n

dreams<\/p>\n

as the world readies<\/p>\n

itself to become<\/p>\n

frigid once more.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

For Karl<\/strong><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

He relished giving<\/p>\n

us the history<\/p>\n

of how Eliot<\/p>\n

was already famous<\/p>\n

the year I was born<\/p>\n

as he took us along<\/p>\n

with him through<\/p>\n

the foggy cobwebs<\/p>\n

of Michelangelo\u2019s rooms<\/p>\n

with all the surety<\/p>\n

a teacher can muster \u2013<\/p>\n

introducing himself<\/p>\n

as a lesser poet<\/p>\n

who effortlessly<\/p>\n

showed me how to<\/p>\n

breathe in droplets<\/p>\n

instead of tides –<\/p>\n

with babies\u2019 breaths<\/p>\n

rather than hurricanes –<\/p>\n

gently,<\/p>\n

the way life flows –<\/p>\n

quietly ticking away<\/p>\n

on mute wrists<\/p>\n

unnoticed and unquestioned<\/p>\n

\u2018til later<\/p>\n

when all our<\/p>\n

urgent notions<\/p>\n

float downstream –<\/p>\n

leaping recklessly<\/p>\n

from oceans of need<\/p>\n

into burning<\/p>\n

deserts of desire<\/p>\n

to hasten<\/p>\n

the arrival<\/p>\n
