G. Personaj absolut insustituibil \u0219i creditat cu for\u021be divine, \u201eOmul-care-aduce-ploaia\u201c are un handicap pe care pu\u021bini poten\u021ba\u021bi ai vremii noastre l-ar tolera. \u201e\u00cen pofida, sau mai cur\u00e2nd \u00een virtutea, onorii excep\u021bionale cu care este tratat\u201c, niciunuia dintre dinasticii \u201egeneratori-de-ploaie\u201c nu \u00eei este permis\u0103 moartea natural\u0103 (cauzat\u0103 de boal\u0103 sau v\u00e2rsta \u00eenaintat\u0103). Pentru c\u0103 \u2013 \u00een inocen\u021ba lor magic\u0103 \u2013 indigenii Dinka cred c\u0103, \u201edac\u0103 un astfel de eveniment nedorit s-ar \u00eent\u00e2mpla, tribul ar suferi de boli \u015fi foamete, iar turmele \u0219i p\u0103m\u00e2ntul nu ar mai da roade\u201c. Pentru a r\u0103m\u00e2ne mai aproape de Europa, voi invoca alt\u0103 victim\u0103 a obscurantismului cras al umanit\u0103\u021bii, Giordano Bruno, ale c\u0103rui opere au fost interzise \u0219i puse literalmente la zid \u00eenainte de a fi pus \u0219i el pe rug (Index librorum prohibitorum).<br \/>\nNu puteam \u00eencheia conturile mele cu termenul deloc agreabil \u00een ciuda sonorit\u0103\u021bii sale poetice \u2013 cum este cel de \u201ecrepitudine\u201c \u2013 f\u0103r\u0103 s\u0103 apelez la antologica sfidare a mor\u021bii relatat\u0103 de Cornelius Tacitus. Istoriograful antic ne spune c\u0103, pentru a evita pedeapsa capital\u0103 public\u0103, Lucius Annaeus Seneca s-a sinucis la ordinele date de \u00eemp\u0103ratul Nero. \u00cen ciuda \u00eempotrivirilor manifestate de c\u0103tre stoicul latin, so\u0163ia sa Paulina \u015fi-a exprimat dorin\u0163a de a muri \u00eempreun\u0103 cu el, ini\u021bial cer\u00e2nd s\u0103 fie str\u0103puns\u0103 cu o sabie. La aceast\u0103 Seneca ar fi r\u0103spuns: \u201eEu \u021bi-am dezv\u0103luit toate consol\u0103rile pe care \u021bi le poate oferi via\u021ba, dar tu preferi s\u0103 mori. Nu m\u0103 voi opune. S\u0103 murim ambii cu acela\u015fi curaj, dar numai tu cu o faim\u0103 care s\u0103 o dep\u0103\u0219easc\u0103 pe a mea!\u201c.<br \/>\nAcum urmeaz\u0103 fragmentul prin care Moartea impotent\u0103 reu\u0219e\u0219te nesperata performan\u021b\u0103 de a se ridica la rang de Art\u0103: \u201eCei doi so\u021bi \u0219i-au t\u0103iat venele. Din cauza b\u0103tr\u00e2ne\u021bii \u00eenaintate s\u00e2ngele \u00eei curgea foarte lent \u0219i, pentru a-i accelera circula\u021bia, Seneca \u0219i-a deschis \u0219i venele de la picioare. A\u0219a cum moartea nu avansa, Seneca a cerut s\u0103 i se dea otrav\u0103, dar \u00een zadar: corpul s\u0103u era prea r\u0103cit \u015fi otrava nu \u00ee\u0219i putea face efectul.
