Fishing Dindi<\/strong>
\n <\/p>\n

I watch an eagle drop
\ndown from the sky\u2019s hem
\nto snatch up a perch. She has
\nmore style than I do,
\nin my worm-smeared shirt
\n 
\nand torn sun hat.
\nAs my bobber drifts,
\nI read a little Chekhov\u2014
\nunlike this sunny day,
\nand provides shade. Dad
\n 
\ntaught me how to cast, could
\ncharm a muskie or a crappie
\nto swim up and say hi
\nor so it seemed at ten. Mom
\ncooked up our catch, said
\n 
\nshe was proud of me,
\na rare occurrence. They\u2019re not
\nbiting today. Anton waves
\nfrom a lily pad. As I wave back,
\na loon cries but sounds happy.
\n 
\nI pull up my anchor,
\nstart the motor and head
\nfor shore where no one waits.
\nExcept birch trees\u2014
\nsteadfast friends.
\n <\/p>\n

Dindi and Trina<\/strong>
\n 
\nDindi has coffee with Trina
\nwho lives with her \u201chubby\u201d
\nand two kids\u2014Trina calls
\n 
\nFrank a dolt, a couch potato,
\na secret porn addict. Dindi
\nsays oh, if only she had a dolt,
\n 
\na couch potato, a secret
\nporn addict\u2014instead,
\nshe has Jason, a goldfish
\n 
\nwho hides in an underwater
\ncastle. Trina says Dindi
\ndoesn\u2019t get marriage\u2014
\n 
\nstay single, believe me,
\nyou get married and
\ndarkness makes the bed.
\n 
\nDindi says darkness has always
\nmade her bed. Sharing it
\nis better than hoarding it.<\/p>\n

Dindi Swimming with Morticia<\/strong>
\n <\/p>\n

I\u2019ll bet Morticia would like
\nHelen Lake. At night we can rest
\nin coffin trees until morning\u2014
\n 
\nmaybe if I were a lake
\nI\u2019d be this one. It doesn\u2019t have
\nLake Superior\u2019s resume,
\n 
\nbut also doesn\u2019t have her
\ndrowned sailors. Morticia
\nand I moonbathe
\n 
\nwhile Gomez checks how
\nConsolidated Fuzz is doing
\non the market–we wade in,
\n 
\nfeet cold, not stopping until
\nHelen touches our shoulders–
